Not sure which pickleball paddle to buy? You’re not alone. With so many paddles now available online, beginners and even intermediate players can easily end up buying something too advanced, too heavy, or simply overpriced for their current level.
To make things easier, we rounded up some of the most commonly recommended paddles from major pickleball reviewers, online communities, and paddles we frequently see being used around Cebu courts. A number of these we use personally (we = my circle of friends who are also “pickleball adiks“)!

S-Tier Paddles: The Best That Money Can Buy
S-Tier paddles are for players who want the highest level of performance available, and are willing to pay for it. These are usually the paddles built for serious intermediate players, advanced players, and competitive players who already know what kind of feel they want from their game.
What makes a paddle S-Tier is not just the brand name or price. It’s the full combination of power, control, spin, stability, forgiveness, and consistency. A true top-tier paddle should feel reliable during fast hand battles, controlled during resets, dangerous on drives, and comfortable enough to use across long games.
For most beginners, these paddles are not necessary right away. But if you already play regularly, know your style, and want a paddle that can keep up as your game improves, this is where the premium options belong.

This is also where a lot of “sulit” paddles live.
For many players around Cebu, B-Tier paddles are already more than enough to enjoy the game, improve consistently, and compete comfortably during regular sessions. In fact, plenty of good players still use more affordable paddles simply because they already know how to maximize their fundamentals and positioning.

Starter Paddles: For Players Just Getting Into the Game
Starter paddles are for players who have only played a few times and simply want their own paddle instead of always borrowing from friends or renting from courts.
The goal here is simple:
affordable, usable, and not garbage.
You do not need an expensive paddle to enjoy pickleball early on. At this stage, what matters most is getting comfortable with:
- basic shots,
- positioning,
- footwork,
- and consistency.
A decent starter paddle lets you test the sport properly before deciding whether you eventually want to invest in something more advanced.
And honestly? Some players stay perfectly happy with starter paddles for a very long time. Me, for example, it took over seven or eight months before I bought my second paddle. My friends started with these, too, before upgrading, and they stuck with it for some time.
